pxstud.io manual
How to draw, animate and build tilesets in pxstud.io, the pixel art editor that runs in your browser.
pxstud.io is a pixel art and animation editor that runs in your browser. It needs no account and no install: open the editor and start drawing. Your work is saved in the browser as you go, and the editor keeps working offline.
This manual explains what every part of the editor does and how to use it. If you've used Aseprite,
most of it will feel familiar: pxstud.io follows the same ideas (layers, frames, cels, tags,
tilemaps), and opens and saves .aseprite files.
Where to start
- New to pxstud.io? Your first sprite walks through making, drawing, saving and exporting a sprite.
- How it all fits together: How your work is organized explains projects, sprites, layers, frames and cels, and what's kept where.
- Arranging the editor: The workspace covers panels, layouts and multiple editors.
- Guides for each part of the editor: layers, color and palettes, selecting and transforming, animation, tilemaps, opening, importing and exporting, slices, resizing, cropping and effects, the library of scripts, palettes and brushes, and inviting people to view your work.
- Keyboard, screen reader or touch screen? Keyboard, accessibility and touch covers the command palette, keyboard drawing and touch gestures.
- Looking something up? The Tools, Tool options, Menus, Keyboard shortcuts, Settings and File formats references list everything, generated from the editor itself.
- Automating with Lua? Your first script writes one in a few minutes, the scripting guide covers the rest, and the Scripting API documents every Lua function.
- Every shortcut on one page: the keyboard quick reference.
- Rather have an app? The desktop app is the editor as a native app for macOS, Windows and Linux.
